Special Guest Today

Rob was outside today cleaning off his bike using one of the rain barrels - the pressure was just right - and someone came around the corner. It was the grandchild of the original owners of the house. This would make the person also the nephew of the owner before us.

Rob gave him a tour. The nephew remembered the place so well that Rob didn't need to show him around - he had fun though explaining some of the stuff that we did and pointing out what is original. The guy remembered sleeping upstairs in the small room with his grandparents across the hall. Apparently our renovations get a thumbs up.

Since I missed meeting him, I am hoping that his brother comes back for a tour as well. I want to give them the old door knocker with their family name on it that I kept (packed away somewhere).

Red Apron

I wanted to share fun information on a present that Amsted gave us. On moving day, we were given two bottles of wine and a gift certificate to the Red Apron. This catering service delivers meals on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. It is essentially a gourmet take-out service with a fixed menu and a set -up where the meal is delivered to a cooler on your porch for a one-week period. The idea was that we would not have to cook weeknight meals just after moving in. We ended up selecting the 10 single frozen dinner option to spread the fun over the longer period (and because it came with a pie and two loaves of bread - who can pass up a pie). I have to say that the food was really good.

There is a lot of information about this service on their website: www.redapron.ca.

Thanks Amsted!

Deficiency Day

Chuck - today would have been the perfect day to come over to see the place with furniture. I stayed home from work today for "deficiency day." Amsted booked all subtrades to come over and finish things off - pucklights were fixed, a missing kick plate was installed in the kitchen, we got a future dishwasher hook-up, paint was touched up and holes were filled. Again, not a bad day. There are still a few more things to be done but it is starting to feel more like a home.

I will get back to the blog because I want to post some comparison shots and talk more about some of the green features. Our time is just dedicated right now to the old place until the end of the month. Then we can focus on one!
