These are more photos from our neighbourhood. First you have the very common combo brick and siding with dormer windows. This one has a metal roof. Next you have the clean lined stucco house. The third one is a very popular house on the street with its more modern look.
If you have any suggestions about exterior siding, please feel free to comment or email. In terms of green, there isn't one clear leader. You really have to balance the issues of embodied energy, durability, etc, etc.... any suggestions on material and style?

Hi guys - it's Lisa from Victoria. We've used hardiplank out here on the coast for a couple of projects. I can't give you numbers/details in terms of actual years of warranty/durability but Curtis chose it d/t its durability.
If you buy hardiplank already painted (don't know if there is an ecofriendly option) it doubles the warranty they provide. But it has to be a colour they provide - no custom colours.
I think the warranty was 20 years? 30 years? Not sure how it will do for Ottawa weather though.
Hi Lisa - it is nice to hear from the reno expert!
That is funny because everyone we speak with recommends Hardiplank.
Thanks for the advice.
